Jessica Pickney, CFNC

My scope of practice will stay in the digestion/gut health area. We will focus on creating a healthy gut microbiome to support a healthy body. I will also work with: those who need to reverse diet, and those who need to enter a cut phase. We will discuss in depth at your first appointment what YOUR goals are and we will work towards them.

Nutrition isn’t just for adults, its for children and teens as well. If you have a child who struggles with focus and attention lets check their nutrition. If you have a teen who wants to bulk in off season, and do it correctly, I can help with this as well.

Nutrition and strength training are just two of my passions. I am excited to help patients start a journey of reclaiming their health. We are meant to thrive and enjoy life. My goal as your nutrition counselor is to help promote a healthy sustainable lifestyle with food. In creating a healthier lifestyle we will naturally start to heal your gut health. Gut health is of the upmost importance when it come to your general well being. If your gut is unhealthy the rest of body will be unhealthy.

I love Jesus and enjoy spending time with my family, strength training, and learning more about the body and how it functions.

Functional nutrition is a holistic approach to health and wellness that focuses on the interplay between various physiological systems in the body and the impact of nutrition on overall well-being. Rather than just addressing symptoms, functional nutrition seeks to identify and address the root causes of health issues. Here are some ways in which functional nutrition can play a significant role in supporting overall health:

  1. Balancing Nutrient Intake: Functional nutrition emphasizes the importance of consuming a variety of nutrient-dense foods to ensure the body receives essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients necessary for optimal functioning.

  2. Digestive Health: Functional nutrition often explores the health of the digestive system, recognizing its critical role in nutrient absorption and overall well-being. Addressing issues such as gut inflammation, dysbiosis, or food sensitivities can have a profound impact on health.

  3. Blood Sugar Regulation: Functional nutrition strategies can help regulate blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of insulin resistance and metabolic disorders. This is particularly relevant for individuals dealing with conditions like diabetes or those looking to prevent such issues.

  4. Hormonal Balance: Functional nutrition recognizes the influence of nutrition on hormonal balance. It can be beneficial in addressing conditions related to hormone imbalances, such as PMS, menopause, or thyroid disorders.

  5. Immune System Support: Nutrition plays a crucial role in supporting a robust immune system. Functional nutrition strategies can help strengthen the immune response, reducing susceptibility to infections and promoting overall health.

  6. Weight Management: Functional nutrition recognizes that weight management is not just about calories in and out. It addresses factors such as metabolism, hormonal balance, and individualized dietary needs to support sustainable weight management.

  7. Energy Optimization: Functional nutrition aims to optimize energy levels by addressing nutritional deficiencies, supporting mitochondrial function, and promoting overall metabolic health.

  8. Individualized Approach: One of the key principles of functional nutrition is its individualized approach. By considering a person's unique genetics, lifestyle, and environmental factors, practitioners can create personalized nutrition plans tailored to specific needs and goals.

It's important to note that while functional nutrition can be supportive in various health contexts, it is not a replacement for medical treatment. Individuals with specific health concerns should consult with healthcare professionals for comprehensive guidance and care.
